There are three accepted theories:
   1. During the french intervention in the 1860s, the french observed musicians in white robes performing at weddings and referred them as "mariachi" stemming from the french word for marriage, "mariage."
   2. Translates to "Joy" from the indigenous Nahuatl language.
   3. "Mariache" is the wooden platform used for dancing.  Historians believe Mariachi originated from the word "Mariache" since mariachis often performed hand-in-hand with dance.
